September 2024 – August 2025
Fiscal Year 2025 (September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025) was a magical year of wishes! Thanks to your heartfelt support, wishes were granted for 76 children with critical illnesses across the state of Hawaii, transforming lives and uniting our community in the process.
I WISH TO GO...
Mikael is an energetic and imaginative 4-year-old boy from Ewa Beach who spends his days riding his bike, smashing his Monster Jam® trucks, and recreating epic battles featuring his favorite truck, Grave Digger®. But behind these joyful moments lies a difficult reality: Mikael is battling leukemia.
Mikael is undergoing a grueling 3.5-year course of chemotherapy—a journey that includes numerous hospital visits, bone marrow biopsies, and ongoing treatment. The road has been anything but easy, but Mikael’s resilience shines through. His Monster Jam truck adventures are more than just play—they’re a welcome escape from the challenges he faces daily.
Mahalo to Swinerton for supporting Mikael’s wish and inspiring hope in wish kids like him every day!
I WISH TO HAVE...
Twelve-year-old Kainoa, affectionately called Kai, has spent much of the last two years navigating hospitals, treatments, and unanswered questions. Diagnosed with
a brain tumor in 2023, he has endured more than most kids.
A thoughtful and low-key surfer boy from Waialua, Kai often found himself daydreaming during long hospital stays. One recurring image brought him comfort: golf carts. On the North Shore, they were a familiar sight, zipping through neighborhoods or heading to the beach. Imagining himself behind the wheel brought him a sense of normalcy and escape.
Mahalo to Lifeline Fire & Security for helping make Kainoa’s wish come true!
I WISH TO HAVE...
For 3-year-old Gael from Kailua-Kona, celebrating his birthday with Bluey was the ultimate dream—and thanks to the support of Goodfellow Bros., his wish came true in the most magical way!
It had been hard for Gael’s family to envision a celebration like this. Just after his first birthday, he was diagnosed with a rare disease that caused tumors on his neck and stomach, bone lesions in skull, and a severely compromised immune system. He has endured a long and difficult medical journey filled with treatments, uncertainty, and challenges that no child should have to face. Yet through it all, Gael has remained resilient. “It was a hard year and a half, but we got through it,” said his mom, Viridiana. “I’m so proud of my son for being such a fighter.”
Mahalo to these partners for making
Gael's wish come true!

I WISH TO GO...
Five-year-old Aelyn from Kaneohe has faced a lifetime of medical challenges due to an autoimmune disorder that makes it difficult for her brain to communicate with her muscles. She’s undergone 14 surgeries, but through it all, she’s remained adventurous, joyful—and full of love for Disney’s Moana and her silly sidekick, Heihei.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Aelyn’s most heartfelt wish came true: a trip to Walt Disney World® with her family. For the first time, they felt safe enough to travel out of state, supported by the care and planning that goes into every wish.
WISHING IT FORWARD
Two years ago, Becky joined Make-A-Wish Hawaii as a volunteer Wish Granter on Maui. Since then, she has already helped grant wishes for 10 keiki, volunteered at every event on island, and sewn custom princess dresses for wish kids, making each child feel truly special.
Becky’s journey with Make-A-Wish Hawaii started a couple of years earlier, inspired by a family member’s illness. Searching for something positive to focus on during a challenging holiday season, Becky and her family began donating gifts for wish kids, wrapping presents, and creating special stockings filled with thoughtful items. This uplifting tradition quickly became an annual event that deepened her connection to the Make-A-Wish mission.
WISH ASSIST STORY
As the winter surf season kicked off in Hawaii, 6-year-old Everett, a Florida native who loves the ocean, saw his biggest dream come true—spending a day with his hero, a renowned waterman.
Before his cancer diagnosis in the summer of 2022, Everett was happiest playing in the ocean with his family and friends. During treatment in Florida, chemotherapy left him feeling drained and unable to go in the water. Instead, he found joy in watching surf shows—especially “Life of Kai,” which follows big-wave surfer Kai Lenny. Imagining himself surfing alongside Kai gave Everett much-needed strength. When he wished to meet his surf hero, Kai eagerly brought Everett’s wish to life, curating an action-packed “Waterman Day” on Maui tailored to the young boy’s adventurous spirit.
SCHULER FAMILY FOUNDATION
Schuler Family Foundation Names Make-A-Wish Hawaii Headquarters in Memory of Jim Schuler
In the heart of downtown Honolulu at Pioneer Plaza, a place of hope and transformation shines even brighter now thanks to the Schuler Family Foundation. In honor of the late Jim Schuler, whose nearly two decades of unwavering support helped grant life-changing wishes, the Make-A-Wish Hawaii headquarters has proudly been named to honor his legacy.
Through this naming opportunity, the vibrant and inspiring home of Make-A-Wish Hawaii will celebrate the legacy of Jim Schuler. From visits with wish families, volunteers and supporters, to planning heartfelt celebrations and fundraising events, the headquarters is where our wish ‘ohana comes together to bring wishes to life for keiki fighting critical illnesses across the state.
CALVIN & SUSIE
Calvin & Susie Welcome Center opens the door to wishes come true
Calvin & Susie has been an Oahu staple for premium pet food and supplies for more than 15 years. Owners Alli and Steve Yamane have turned a personal commitment to feeding their dogs the most nutritious food possible into a successful business with locations in Kailua and Honolulu. Through their support of Make-A-Wish Hawaii, their care for the community extends to Hawaii’s keiki, inspiring hope for children with critical illnesses through life-changing wishes.
Calvin & Susie recently made a generous $50,000 gift toward naming the Welcome Center at Make-A-Wish Hawaii for the next two years. The Yamane ‘ohana also contributed an additional $50,000 to establish the Yamane Family Endowment, ensuring more wishes will be granted for children across the state for years to come.
FOUNDATIONS HAWAII, INC.
Foundations Hawaii, Inc. Lays the Groundwork for Wishes to Come True
Since its inception 30 years ago, Kapolei-based concrete contracting company Foundations Hawaii has lived up to its name, laying lasting foundations for apartments, businesses, hotels, and other major projects across the state. In addition to paving the way for the vital spaces where local families live and work, the company has also spent over half of its history constructing something less tangible but just as enduring: hope. A longtime partner of Make-A-Wish Hawaii, Foundations Hawaii President Kevin Pena and his team have generously donated hundreds of thousands of dollars toward granting life-changing wishes for Hawaii children fighting critical illnesses.
“Our local community and families support us in what we do, so it’s important to me to give back in any way we can,” says Pena. “I’m a firm believer in taking care of others.”
Established in memory of 19-year-old Kaneohe wish kid Taiyo, the Wishes Forever Endowment Fund will make life-changing wishes possible for Hawaii keiki fighting critical illnesses for years to come.
Despite an arduous medical journey, Taiyo was always a driven, optimistic, and selfless teen. He dreamed of starting his own heavy equipment rental business and using his profits to make a difference in the lives of other kids, and his wish for a hydraulic dump trailer was a momentous first step in helping him reach his goals. True to his altruistic spirit, Taiyo wasted no time wishing it forward, using his new trailer to deliver a tracked wheelchair to another local wish child.
I WISH TO MEET...
Nine-year-old Titus from Kamuela has always had a deep love for animals, but one creature in particular captured his heart—the capybara. Known as the world’s largest rodent, these gentle and sociable animals fascinated Titus, who would watch videos and read about them with endless curiosity. The capybara became a symbol of strength and joy during some of the most challenging times in his young life.
Growing up with a neuromuscular disorder, Titus faces daily obstacles that most children his age don’t have to consider. He loves adventure and playing outside, but his condition makes it difficult for him to keep up with his two older brothers, especially when climbing trees or playing in the water. As Titus’ condition made everyday activities more difficult—stumbling while playing, falling behind, and traveling frequently to Oahu for medical care—he was buoyed by the happiness that his favorite animal brought him.
MEDICAL PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Guided by a lifelong dream to make a difference, Alyssa Carey impacts the lives of Hawaii children and their families every day as a social worker at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children’s Pediatric Complex Care Clinic (PC3). And in her tireless work to ensure every eligible child may experience the transformative power of a wish, she is also a valued partner in our mission at Make-A-Wish Hawaii.
Mahalo to our corporate partners for their heartfelt support to make wishes come true. We couldn’t grant wishes without you!
The Swing for Wishes golf tournament at Hawaii Prince Golf Club has grown to be one of our most important fundraisers, raising more than $1.4 million since its inception to transform the lives of Hawaii keiki with critical illnesses. Thanks to the ongoing partnership of Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa, this event has given wish kids the hope and strength needed to keep fighting when they need it most.
Mahalo for your generous support of the 12th annual Jingle Rock Run, presented by Road Builders Corporation at Ko Olina Resort! This joyful holiday celebration brought together wish children and their families, community supporters, dedicated volunteers and generous donors like you to celebrate the season and the life-changing impact of wishes.
More than 2,150 participants walked side-by-side with 83 wish families in this festive celebration. Santa Claus surprised Rhyder, an 8-year-old from Waipahu fighting a blood disorder, with the news that his wish to go to Disney World is coming true!
Thanks to your generosity, Jingle Rock Run raised a record-breaking $335,000—ensuring that more keiki across the state will experience the joy of a wish come true.
Mahalo for celebrating the holiday season and power of a wish!
Mahalo to everyone who joined us for Cheers! Wishes for da Keiki, presented by the Lemman Family Foundation and hosted by the Young Leaders Board! This unforgettable evening brought together supporters, donors, and community members for a night of celebration and impact—all to grant life-changing wishes for Hawaii keiki.
With delicious food, craft cocktails, and lively music, guests toasted to the power of a wish while raising funds to bring hope and joy to children with critical illnesses. Special mahalo to Wish Kids Aelyn, Cruz, DJ, Kanoa, and Paige for greeting guests as they arrived!
Thanks to the generosity of attendees and sponsors, more than $125,000 was raised to ensure more wishes come true across Hawaii. Cheers!
WISH! In the Wild was an unforgettable night of hope and celebration, where wish kids, families, volunteers, medical partners, and generous donors came together for one incredible mission: to bring strength and joy to keiki with critical illnesses through the life-changing power of a wish.
WISH! In the Wild raised a record-breaking $1.1 million—our most successful fundraising event in Make-A-Wish Hawaii history!
One of the most moving moments of the evening was watching Wish Kid Atticus perform “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” live with Kaylee Brooke Shimizu, just days after his wish to meet and perform with his musical hero, Mr. Rob, came true. Thanks to your support, more keiki across the state will soon experience the transformational magic of a wish too.
Mahalo to our sponsors, especially Arrillaga Foundation, for your fierce generosity and unwavering belief in our mission.
I WISH TO MEET...
9-year-old Atti is a gifted musician whose passion has become more than a pastime—music is his voice, his way of coping, self-regulating, and connecting with the world. He taught himself to play, spending hours each day immersed in instruments and memorizing melodies from his favorite YouTube teacher, Mr. Rob of Prodigies Music. Mr. Rob’s colorful videos became part of Atti’s daily rhythm and emotional healing.
When Atti learned he would receive a wish from Make-A-Wish Hawaii, his heart was set on one thing: to meet and perform with Mr. Rob in person.
Construction and wish granting have a lot in common: each requires a vision, a plan, and a creative team dedicated to turning ideas into reality. That’s why Swinerton–a national construction company with a deep commitment to our local community–intuitively understands what it takes to help Hawai’i wish kids build toward brighter futures. Inspired by the “profound and lasting impact of a wish,” board member Aaron Yamasaki and his Honolulu-based team at Swinerton have become invaluable partners in creating life-changing wishes for our keiki and their ‘ohana. From granting Krayson’s wish to have a sensory clubhouse to sponsoring major annual fundraising events like Swing for Wishes and generously contributing to the Wishes Forever Endowment Fund, the team at Swinerton ensures a lasting impact of their own in all they do. A heartfelt mahalo to Aaron and the entire team for sparking imagination and creating hope, one wish at a time!
Volunteer of the Year:
Christie Robello
When Christie Robello’s youngest son, Joseph, was diagnosed with cancer, she felt overwhelmed with emotion. But amid the fear and anxiety surrounding his illness, the prospect of a wish ushered in hope and strength for the entire ‘ohana. From the support of her son’s wish granting volunteers to the sheer joy on Joseph’s face when his wish to meet Mickey Mouse came true, the entire journey was pure magic. Since then, Christie has devoted her time to giving back, ensuring other local families may also experience the life-changing power of a wish. As a wish granter, Christie consistently goes above and beyond to create memorable wishes of the highest quality. Her sons, Joseph and Jonah, join her in volunteering at events, and Jonah serves on the Youth Leadership Council. Even in our “wildest” dreams, we couldn’t imagine a more perfect example of the power of wishing it forward–mahalo, Christie!
Medical Partner of the Year:
Dr. Kelley Hutchins
Dr. Kelley Hutchins, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children, touches the lives of wish keiki every day, helping them navigate life-altering diagnoses with expert medical care and immense heart. Dr. Hutchins has seen firsthand how a wish can be an integral part of a child’s treatment plan, empowering them to envision life beyond illness. Kyra, a 16-year-old from Kapolei who credits Dr. Hutchins with saving her life, found “light and joy” from her wish to have a shopping spree during her fight with lymphoma. Dr. Hutchins has referred more than 80 patients like Kyra to Make-A-Wish Hawaii over the past six years and is an active member of our Medical Advisory Board and a volunteer Wish Granter. She is also an ardent advocate for our mission, even joining Kyra on a local news segment to inform and engage others in the community. We are proud to recognize Dr. Hutchins as our Medical Partner of the Year!
Wish Family of the Year:
Wish Kid Pomai and ‘Ohana
An aspiring political science major with dreams of studying on the mainland, 17-year-old Honolulu wish kid Pomai looks to the future with optimism and courage. But an unexpected leukemia diagnosis–and the ensuing nausea and holidays spent in the hospital–caused “the light in him to go out for a while,” says Pomai’s family. When his wish to go skiing in Utah came true, that light returned, allowing Pomai to once again envision life beyond illness. And with two physicians in the family who witnessed firsthand how vital hope is to healing, the entire ‘ohana has since been dedicated to giving back, spending their holidays not in the hospital but instead wishing it forward at Jingle Rock Run and other events. Pomai also serves on our Youth Leadership Council, helping to bring more transformational wishes to life for fellow keiki fighting critical illnesses. We are so proud to recognize Pomai and his ‘ohana as our wish family of the year!
Leadership Award:
Glenn Furuya and Debbie Bacon
The forward-thinking minds at the helm of Leadership Works–a world-class local business development and consulting company–Glenn Furuya and Debbie Bacon are expert leaders with a shared passion for investing in others. And when a chance encounter with wish kid Reece at Jingle Rock Run 10 years ago inspired them to make a sizable donation in his name, it began a truly remarkable partnership that has uplifted and empowered our entire wish ‘ohana. In addition to adopting several local wishes, Glenn and Debbie are using their natural talent for developing people and organizations to help lay the foundation for more life-changing wishes well into the future–partnering with wish kid Taiyo’s parents to establish the Wishes Forever Endowment Fund and recruiting fellow donors. Mahalo, Debbie and Glenn, for believing in our vision of reaching every eligible child in Hawaii with the power of a wish!
Magic Maker of the Year:
Aulani, A Disney® Resort & Spa
As a Disney® resort, bringing magic to life for children and their families is what Aulani does best. And as a longtime Make-A-Wish Hawaii partner that graciously hosts hundreds of local and visiting wish families every year, it’s no surprise that Aulani has earned our Magic Maker of the Year award! From staycations and wishes to dance with Mickey Mouse on the beach to “Wish Weeks” that bring numerous wish families together, Aulani has been the site of more than 1,575 transformational wishes over the past 10 years. Aulani also consistently supports our mission through generous donations and special touches at events like Jingle Rock Run (think Mickey Mouse-shaped treats and beloved characters in festive outfits ready to cheer on our wish kids!). We could not be more grateful to the Aulani cast for helping to give keiki with critical illnesses the opportunity to recapture the magic of their childhoods and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Throughout April, our community came together to make World Wish Month a powerful celebration of hope. Thanks to your compassion and generosity, more than $100,000 was raised to help grant life-changing wishes for keiki with critical illnesses across the state.
We kicked off the month with an incredible gift from Maui Divers Jewelry, who donated 100% of online sales on April 1—raising nearly $38,000 in a single day! On April 17, our KHON2 Telethon raised nearly $50,000 and featured a magical surprise for 5-year-old Pandora from Pearl City as she learned her wish to go to Walt Disney World® is coming true. Mickey Mouse joined the celebration, live on air!
Throughout the month, KHON2’s Living808 spotlighted inspiring stories from children and families whose lives have been transformed through the power of a wish. Across town, buildings including Honolulu Hale and the IBM Building were lit up in blue to raise awareness, while corporate partners launched their own fundraising campaigns to help grant wishes. Wish Kid Titus of Kamuela was delighted to see his photo on a box of pepperoni pizza—one of 50,000 informational flyers that were shared on Domino’s Hawaii pizza boxes across the state!
To every WishMaker—our donors, volunteers, and partners—
who helped make this month so meaningful, mahalo. Because
of you, more children can experience the joy, strength, and power of a wish.
